I was hoping to be bottling today after 8 days fermentation but my brew has gone lazy and stopped at an sg 1020. I have stirred it, put the belt on to rase the temperature and wrapped it up. This is my 1st brew so any advice would be useful
You've done the right thing, 1.020 is a bit on the high side and it will probably drop another few points on the hydrometer- often to around 1.014 as a guide. Some extra warmth to get it to at least 20 degrees C will help, and a stir to re-suspend the yeast can often help it along. In a couple of days the reading will probably have dropped the last bit and the sediment will re-settle too
That's great news, the reading should stay steady around that, and as long as it drops no further the beer can then be bottled, and left to clear and carbonate
