Hi Gary1240. Welcome to the home brew family.I have only been brewing for a short time.Adding the yeast like you have done is perfect, some brewers sprinkle it,others tend to stir it into the brew.Which ever method you choose, you will have great results provided it is kept at the recommended brewing temperature. Good luck.Pete.
As Pete says you will often have froth on the top after mixing the ingredients and topping up with water, to help the yeast get off to a good and quick start it is best to ensure the yeast comes into contact with the liquid, a gentle stir usually does the trick if needed. The faster the yeast gets to work on your brew the lower the risk of any contamination
I started my first brew yesterday and I've just checked it. The bubble in the airlock is bubblying about every 8 seconds, is that right. The temperature is 21 degrees.
21 degrees C is a good brewing temperature for most brews, the rate of bubbling (if any) can really vary but it all sounds good and perfectly normal. Once it has finished fermenting you can then bottle or barrel
