Make my beer stronger.

I just bottled a batch of coopers lager it is 4.7% ABV. i used 1KG of sugar i was just wondering if i added more sugar in the next batch would the beer turn out stronger ? Or is the yeast strain supplied with the kit only tolorant to a certan alcohall level ie around 5%.

    Hi Batfink5537. You could add sugar to make it stronger, but the method I use which i think has better results is to put in less water. For example with a 23 litre kit I would but in 20 litres of water, making a 4.5% ABV kit about 5.5% ABV. This will make it stronger plus make it more concentrated which will give it extra body and flavour too. I've gone as low as using 18 litres of water in a 23 litre kit, which gave some good results.

    Alot of beer kit brands will use the same yeast for a 5% beer kit and a 8% beer kit, so I would say your safe with most kits to take it up to 8% ABV.
