Harris Filter and 23lt FV

Hi,
I have just purchased and used my Harris filter for giving my wine that extra clarity, The product itself is easy to use and really gives crystal clear results, I just have one question, At the moment I pearch mine at the top of my FV using the lid and handle to hold it in place but this makes the wine drop from the filter to the liquid level in the bottom of the FV. Does this introduction of oxygen cause a problem or is there another way of using the Filter with a 23ltr FV? Thanks

As you say you usually try not to mix air in with the wine if possible, however the Vinbrite MK3 filter is designed to sit on top of a demijohn, so the wine does drop to the bottom of that much like it will in a larger 23 litre vessel, and this is the usual way to use the filter. The only thing you could do is to try and use a piece of tube if you wanted to modify it, but allowing the wine to flow into the vessel is the standard way

first using the Laundry basket balance method !

then I thought String! with my lovely wife's help we built a cradle (this is my favourite method) its hung off one of the metal bars you use to knock wooden flooring together held in place by the FV holding the wine to be filtered

then for ease of use and keeping this less open to the elements I bought another FV and cut a hole in the top, using the ridge of the lid to angle the filter down the side of the FV (tubing didn't work, it just stopped, guess it was an air thing). simple evolution, pretty obvious with hindsight
