Simply Ginger Beer

Hi We have brewed  a few batches of Simply Ginger beer using brewing sugar which was a bit to sweet for my taste so, we have made a batch with beer enhancer............

WOW!! It is brilliant and really  brings the flavour of ginger out and is much less sweet Perfect! A truly refreshing drink!

That's useful to know, with the malt in the enhancers I'd never have considered trying that.  Might give it a go next time I do a ginger beer.  Which enhancer did you use, 1 or 2?

I have bought one of these kits, not a big fan of ginger beer but i do like the occasional one over lunch. Being a little unsure of the strength of the kit ( the only other time i tried a ginger beer kit it was kinda washed out - more ginger water less ginger beer) i have taken a bit of this idea and a bit of another one to get what i hope will be a lovely drop
so i have added only 3 gallons / 15 ltr of water and used half sugar and half muntons enhanser that i bought for a muntons gold brew i just made
the only downfall to my plan is i have no idea what it would have tasted like orginally, but if all goes to plan i get something nice and strong

Do let us know what it is like My 5 gal simply GB is 4% flavours of Ginger with a warm bite..lovely drink

ahhhhh shoot, knew i would forget something, i did not take a starting gravity, so busy geting my bitter in to the keg and washing everything out i forgot to take it.

Is there a way of telling how strong it is without it?

It's not really possible to work it out without the original gravity reading, however if you have added a kg of enhancer/sugar as the instructions say it will come out around the usual strength, in this case the same as Patty

Will it be the same , even though Mort used 15 ltr of water?

Hi Patty, well spotted we didn't notice that so thank you! By reducing the amount of water by quite a lot it will intensify the flavour and also increase the alcohol content too, as a guide a quick estimation would be around 7% or just a bit less, we would definitely like to hear how it tastes once finished....

thanks for the info, i cannot wait to try it now, it stopped fermenting yesterday so i will check it later to see if its about ready to bottle

I am going to make my first batch of Simply (Ritchies) Ginger Beer this weekend. I found this thread very useful. Still mulling over my final recipe as whether to go beer enhancer or similarly use up a spare 1lb pack of Light Spraymalt combined with 2lb brewing sugar. But definately reducing the water content to come out with around 3.5 gallons. Ideally I get something very strong (ABV) with a medium sweet taste and plenty of spicy ginger.
