Funny smell

Hi I've tried a few different make of wine kits and recently tried a Solomon Grundy one, but we keep up ending with a wine that had a really awful smell to it. I've tried extra stirring to get rid of gases etc but it does not seem to have worked. I now wondered if I am supposed to leave the lid of when leaving it to stand so more gas can escape or should it be closed do you have any advise for me please .

Is the smell during the wine making process, and after it has been stored in bottles for a while is it the same when you open it? And does it taste OK?

I have had the same problem! My wine tastes great but has an unfavourable smell. I have noticed that it gets better if I decant the wine and leave for an hour before pouring into the glass. I am hoping this is bottle shock and will ease with age, as my wine has only been bottled 3 weeks.
