All Grain Home build (complete bodge)

For a few weeks now I've been making a boiler and mash tun as a bit of a project. I thought I would put my progress on here to give other people ideas and to see if anyone has done something similar. 

The boiler is plastic and cost me about £20 for the keg itself and I've made a hop filter from copper pipe. The elements are from two wilkinsons kettles £5 each roughly. 

Still need to insulate and wire up the elements but they work perfectly.

This is my mash tun made from two fermenting buckets, one with holes in the bottom to act as a false bottom for sparging:

Its insulated in multipurpose thermal foil from B&Q and gaffa taped together, the idea being you can sponge it off if you make a mess!

Im in the middle of making an immersion wort chiller from copper tube so in the next couple days will post another few pics.

Hopefully It will be done soon cant wait!

Chiller all made up, its frightening how much copper is needed for a small coil! Very easy to do though and cost me £20 roughly in copper and fittings

Awesome, it looks like a great feat of engineering, the copper will have taken some bending, it will all be worth it when you get brewing with it - even more satisfying to use something you've made yourself! Keep the updates coming....

Only took about 20 minutes to bend believe it or not! Top tip is to fill the copper tubing with water then shove the whole thing in the freezer. The ice stops the copper deforming when you bend it

Very well done, mozza. Your wort chiller in particular looks very professional, I wish I had your skill. Perhaps you might like to go into production with you mash set-up, perhaps HBO would be interested. Best of luck with your superior brewing skills.

Well, pleased to announce that the set up has been christened. Made my first all grain wort the other day. Took a good 8 hours though! Hoping it will be worth it! The main benefit so far when tasting the wort is the hoppiness. Very hoppy and incredibly sweet by using real grain. The yeast obviously prefers this because I've never had a kit beer 'erupt' like this! The beer was actually coming out of the airlock!
