Hi guys, my friend brought round a new Wilko beer kit he got for Christmas and wanted a hand getting it started. We followed the instructions to the letter however it would appear that during the first fermentation no sugar is required at all?
This doesn't sound right surely? Have you heard of anything like this before? It advises that the sugar should only be added when bottling for second fermentation? (1 teaspoon per bottle)
We only started it yesterday so thought I'd ask now before it get's ruined and wasted.
Thanks in advance

We're not sure, it depends on the kit, you are best to check with the supplier for an accurate answer as we are only guessing, but as a general guide beer ingredients come in two types, 1 tin/pouch kits which need sugar or ideally brew enhancer adding to them - often 1kg, or two tin/pouch kits usually 3 to 4kgs, and these require no sugar adding as there is more malt extract already included. We recommend kits from ranges such as the 'Ultimate Brewery' range or 'Festival' range which need no sugar adding;

Hi guys thanks as always for the quick reply - I guess it is a possible answer then that there is no sugar needed at first fermentation - just wanted to check it was an option!
Thanks
