Keeping a barrel tap clean.

I have a barrel of Nelsons Revenge in my garage and I would like to know how I ensure the tap is clean between drinking sessions.

If keeping the barrel somewhere where it may become dirty or contaminated it would be a good idea to clean it with warm water before use, and if needed cover the tap or wrap it up. This is probably more necesary if storing in a garage or outbuilding rather than in a home, if needed the whole barrel could be covered over with a sheet to keep it clean
