Irish Stout secondary fermentation.

I am brewing the Velvet smooth Irish stout. The tin and enclosed instructions contradict each other.
On the tin it says after primary fermentation, bottle but no mention of adding carbonation drops just straight to the bottles. Where as the enclosed instructions say to add sugar or carbonation drops at bottling stage. Which one is right?

The quick guide on the back of the tin with the illustrations is just a brief overview and that doesn't go into any detail or mention the priming sugar, although it does show something being poured into the barrel, but always follow the main instructions included with any brew, they are usually on the inside of the label or as in this case, under the lid. The written enclosed instructions are much more thorough and specific. The addition of sugar to the barrel or bottles is an important part of the process, it is known as 'priming' and will carbonate the brew and slightly increase the alcohol content. If using standard 500ml bottles then with this particular Irish Velvet Stout you should add no more than 1 level teaspoon of sugar, but it is important to add the priming sugar
