Magnum Strawberry Cider - How much sugar to add for a barrel?

Hi,

I've never made cider before and upon following instructions for the above mentioned it advises 'for bottling to add 1 teaspoon of sugar per 750ml, or you can use a pressure barrel (which I am), to transer to the keg and then add 60g of sugar and seal'? Does that mean 60g per 750ml or in total for the whole barrel?

I don't want to put way to little or way too much in?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Regards

You should add around 60 grams of sugar in total to the barrel, and this will be sufficient to prime it, which will cause secondary fermentation and carbonate the brew. Most manufacturers give a recomended amount of sugar to add to each bottle, or the total amount to add to a barrel, based on the volume of cider or other brew being made. In this case a teaspoon per 750ml bottle would in total be around 60 grams. Over-priming can create too much carbonation and therefore pressure, in a barrel this pressure can be vented safely, but in sealed bottles the pressure has nowhere to go and can be dangerous, so it's always best to check
