Fermentation Foam

Hi All,

I am currently having a first attempt at brewing cider. The fermentation process has started however I have noticed that the foam on the top has turned a light brown colour. I was very careful in ensuring everything was cleaned prior to use so I am just wondering if this is normal or potentially something has gone wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi rossdkemp, yes that's perfectly normal so don't worry. As the sugars are converted by the yeast, the foam will change in volume and appearance. If there was by any chance any problem, this would usually be evident by a bad vinegar smell. Just let us know if you have any further queries.

Good stuff, the foam seems to be going back to a white colour now and doesn't smell funky so hoping all is good. Hopefully I will have a successful first batch

sounds like it's going well, just keep an eye on the hydrometer reading so you know when it's finished, and keep us posted on the results
