ABV ???

Hi folks, I'm quite new to the home brew game so I was wondering of the beer gets stronger in abv during secondary fermentation in a pressure keg? It's just I have a double batch of woodfreds headctacker on the go and my starting gravity was 1.062 and it was 1.020 after primary fermentation. It has now had a week in the barrel and it has not changed. The abv calculated is 5.6% and it should be 7% ish. Any ideas? Once again thanx in advance :0)

Yes the ABV goes up by .5% in secondry. So urs will be around 6.1% after secondry.

Ps if you had fermented it down to between 1014 & 1010 you would probably have hit the 7% mark.

I think my primary may have stuck at 1020 but is now been in the keg for almost 2 weeks but it has not cleared yet? Would it still be ok to drink? Thanx

You're best to leave it longer in the keg and it will clear, Woodfordes clearing time is optimistic, we find in practice that it can take longer to clear, so see how it is in another couple of weeks and it should be much improved. They're best left a while in the keg to condition and the flavours improve the longer you leave it, so don't worry about it, it will be fine to drink and will get there

I did this and it took around 2 months in the barrel before it cleared properly. I've got 4 barrels so it's easy for me to let my beers mature properly. I totally understand the desire to sample as soon as possible, but you're really missing out on quality if your impatient. A strong beer like Headcracker is no where near as good after a month in the barrel as it is after 3 or 4. Thats when it's at least as good if not better than anything in your local.
