Making Strong Stout

Hi All,
just started doing this and I am a bit addicted. But there seems to be a gap in the market for a strong stout, something like Guiness Export or Dragon Stout. I'm assuming that you could adapt one of the kits to make something like this. Anyone ever tried?
Tried slightly reducing water and increasing sugar in a munton's imperial stout kit, but fermentation stopped too early, don't think the yeast could handle it. Perhaps didn't like the simple sugars? Going to have another go in a couple of days using spraymalt, just wondered if anyone had any advice?
