Hi,
I have watched loads of your videos to get tips on brewing my own beer for the first time in over 35 years. It looks as if nothing has changed and seems straightforward. However, I have a query regarding bottling my beer when it has fermented out.
When it comes to bottling, can I just put the clean bottles under the tap of the fermenting vessel and open the valve for each bottle or must I use a syphon tube? I don't want to end up with cloudy beers but I'm also aware that using a syphon tube will take longer as I will predominately being doing all the work myself [Only 2 hands]. Or, should I be transferring it into another fermenting vessel first, before bottling? One of the videos I saw from your site looked to me as if it was just transferred direct to bottles via the tap.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,

When bottling you ideally need to minimise the amount of air that comes into contact with the brew, if you just use a tap this can mix air in as it splashes down which is why it is best to syphon. It also minimises the amount of sediment stirred up if done carefully, the less sediment you get in the bottles the better. We have a guide here that has some advise on transferring the brew into bottles if of any interest which we think will help explain it better:

With regard to using a second vessel, you can do this and it is sometimes done to take the brew off the dead yeast and leave it to settle again for a day or two in a second clean vessel, this helps to reduce the amount of sediment in the bottles, and if you do disturb when syphoning there is less sediment to mix up. Most people just transfer to bottles straight from the primary fermenter, we find the 'little bottler' to be the quickest and simplest way, and as you say having only 2 hands this solution is really easy:
Little bottler on it's own: https://www.home-brew-online.com/equipment-c40/home-brew-online-little-bottler-bottling-stick-with-lever-tap-p669
Little bottler with a vessel already drilled to fit it: https://www.home-brew-online.com/equipment-c40/home-brew-online-fermenting-vessel-25-ltr-including-little-bottler-lid-with-grommet-p809
We hope this helps
I've had a good look at your suggestions and the little bottler looks a great idea.....

However, am I missing something ? If the little bottler just fits on to the end of the tap, surely it will "dig" up the same amount of sediment as if I just used the tap itself?
You can use just a tap on it's own, but just try to minimise splashing and mixing air in, it is at this stage that a brew can be at a higher risk of contamination
Many thanks again for your very quick response. I have earlier today ordered the wee bottler and tap from yourselves [#624057 (WEB624057)] and hope to start brewing as soon as it arrives.
