I made my first cider recently and started drinking it last weekend.
I have to say I am surprised about how tasty it is! I would definately recommend it for first time-ers. (And probably everyone else as well!)
How I made it:
Bought the complete starter kit.
I made it up to about 20 litres to make it a little stronger.
Remained in the fermenting vessel for 7 days, then transferred to bottles.
Waited about 2 weeks, then put some in the fridge for a couple of days before drinking.
I used two carbonation drops per bottle.
If my hydrometer readings are correct the strength is between 7-7.5%.
My question is, what to try next? More of the same or do I take a risk and try a different cider?

Adding extra apple juice is a great idea especially considering it worked in the example above. I have made a mental note of this because up to now I generally make this kit to 28 pints after a good deal of experimentation. [tin foil hat in place] It also makes fairly good cider vinegar from the dregs.
JB used to produce a Pear Cider. I don't know if this is still the case but I never saw any of the kits.
