Pop-ups

I can see the use behind pop-ups, but I can't be the only one on here getting sick of having one or more popping up every time I open a new page to browse the products on the main 'shop' site.
How many times do you need to be told how much more you need to spend to get free postage, or that if you subscribe you get a discount, or whatever?
Surely there's got to be a way of setting it so that once you click on them to say you've read/accepted them you don't get them again during that session?
