Filtering before adding to fermenter

BrewNerdBrewNerd Member Posts: 33
Hi, just wondering what people think about filtering the wort. Yesterday I brewed an all grain recipe and I decided to try reduce the final amount of trub in the fermenter by filtering the cooled work from the boil pot to the fermenter via a muslin cloth which is really good when I made cider, but it took ages to filter the batch through. I'm just wondering if it's really worth the effort. Thanks.

Often people don't filter the wort when transferring to a vessel ready for fermenting, and the sediment will then settle in the fermenter and can be left behind. Some people 'whirlpool' the wort before transferring by stirring vigorously, then use the tap in the boiler or a syphon to remove the liquid to the fermenter - this can cause the suspended matter to concentrate in the middle of the whirlpool and reduce the amount transferred over into the fermenting vessel

Thanks for the comments. I did feel I was maybe wasting my time as you said, the sediment settles anyway.
