How high to fill PET bottles

The instructions for the "Little Bottler" say to fill bottle to top and this will leave the correct headspace.
I have found that doing this with PET bottles leaves a minuscule headspace.
I have filled them to the bottom of the thread part of the bottle, this leaves about 1 inch when the "Little Bottler is removed"
Is this the correct headspace or should I fill to the top as instructed?

You want to leave a little bit of a gap.

I do leave about an inch on mine, but I re-use glass beer bottles that are all 500ml. I am not sure on the size of the plastic bottles you are using.

I don't think it really matters too much, as long as you dont fill them right up to the top and there is "some" gap.

The bottom of the thread below the neck is fine, usually if you fill the bottle to the top with the bottler, when you remove the tube that volume of liquid the tube had displaced is about right
