Hi everyone, can you please help me as I am pulling my hair out!!.
After steralising all my gear I barrelled off a bitter into the said barrel and waited 3 moths to try it, all was well until I got near to the bottom and then I saw a white scum on the top why is this??
Many thanks

Hi there, it's possible the brew may have some kind of yeasty froth on the surface, if the barrel has been sealed up and this white surface has developed whilst in there this is unusual. One other possibility is that it has somehow become contaminated, this can happen even if you have done nothing wrong and can be due to contaminants in the air etc, if it had become contaminated though the brew would usually taste and smell strongly of vinegar or taste off. If it still tastes and smells OK this is usually a good indication all is OK. We recommend VWP for ensuring everything is nice and clean, it is great for sterilising
